However, it did not make an impression because the then browsers were unable to support the advanced features of PNG so web designers and developers had to use it sparingly. Even if, this problem has been resolved in the image format and you will be able to store the images without losing any information, GIF has a limited color palette of 256, which imparts it quite useless if you are going to save a photograph. PNG is self optimizing: A serious problem that web designers face very often is the anomaly due to which the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be adjusted to see the the display properly; this problem occurs due to the difference in the Gamma setting used for the different monitors. Gamma setting is a method incorporated to distribute the the light across the screen. However, diverse operating systems use distinct Gamma settings. Hence, an image that is color corrected to suit Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Once again, in this situation the versatile PNG image type comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can save the images with an inherent Gamma correction feature so regardless of the operating system; the Gamma settings will be realigned to display a picture with the impressive brightness and contrast.
