Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The benefits of using PNG images in website creation over various other image formats such as GIF and JPEG; the file type helps to make really amazing and spectacular images that will entice your customersThe PNG file type was introduced a few years back; it was brought out in the market around 95/96 to meet the deficiencies of the the common GIF file type. However, it failed to create ripples because the the browsers of the time were unable to support the state of the art attributes of PNG so website designers and makers were compelled to include it in their designs restrictedly. One of the primary hurdles standing in the way was Microsoft Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of that period; IE had little or no place for PNG support which equated to the fact that the format could only be made use of in the most restricted way. But, things changed with the introduction of IE7; this new product from Microsoft has proved immensely useful in increasing increasing the utility of PNGs. So here is a look at three reasons why PNG is by far the most innovative image formats around today:
It is possible to create images that can be superimposed due to their transparency or a feature called alpha transparency: When you compare PNG with GIF, it will become apparent that one of the major differences is that you you will be restricted to saving a particular color in a transparent format through GIF which means that the color can be used regardless of it being opaque or transparent with nothing in between with the use of PNG, you get a specific advantage; because the format is capable of producing semi transparent pixels. With this attribute, you can save a PNG file with a soft drop shadow and then float it against any background. The Image can also be used as a gradient background or water mark. The image file type gives you the option to use the smooth fading of shades from completely opaque to transparent, exposing the webpage that lies in the background
They look fantastic: It is a well known fact that PNG images give you extreme flexibility also; there are several other advantages to including this format. For instance, if you choose a JPG image, you lose a part of the data from the original file every time the file is saved, so eventually, you will be able to see a distinct downgrade in the finesse of the images. Although, this problem has now been sorted in in the file type and it is possible to store the images without compromising any information, GIF has a limited color palette of 256, which makes it quite futile if you want to save a picture. On the other hand, when you use PNG, you could get the perfect features of the image formats; you will have access to a complete color display similar to JPEG images and it also offers managed color palette like GIF files. At the same time the compression of the image is sans loss so the photograph stays as it is regardless of how many time you save it.
PNG allows for self optimization: A serious problem that web designers face frequently is the anomaly due to which the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be regulated to see the the display correctly; this happens due to the difference in the Gamma setting used for the different monitors. Gamma is a technology that helps to distribute the luminance across the monitor display. However, diverse operating systems use a variety of Gamma settings. Hence, multimedia that is color corrected specifically for Windows may not look right on a Mac. Here again, in this situation the versatile PNG format comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can store the pictures with a built in Gamma correction so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be automatically adjusted to show an image with the impressive ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
