Icon sizes: 256x256, 128x128, 48x48, 32x32, 24x24, 20x20, 16x16, 512x512 File formats: ICO, GIF, PNG, BMP Why Should You Use PNG Images in Your Website Creation? The advantages of including PNG image format in web designing over various other image formats such as GIF and JPEG; the file format helps to make really amazing and wonderful icons that will wow your visitorsThe PNG file type was introduced quite a while back; it was put forth in the market in the mid 90's to meet the deficiencies of the the common GIF file type. However, it did not make an impression because the the browsers of the time were not designed to support the progressive offerings of PNG so web designers and developers were compelled to include it in their designs restrictedly. One of the major hurdles that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft's Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of the time; IE had limited space for PNG support which equated to the fact that the format could only be incorporated in limited capacity. However, things went through a change after the availability of IE7; this fresh product from Microsoft has aided in increasing the usability of PNGs. So here is why at three reasons why PNG is is often regarded as the best image formats around today: You can get see through images or a property known as alpha transparency: When you pitch GIF against PNG, you will see that one of the major differences is that you can only save a particular color transparently through the use of GIF this simply means that the color can be transformed regardless of it being opaque or transparent with no other color in betweenbut when you use PNG, you get a serious feature over GIF; because the format can be used to produce semi transparency. This simply means that you can save a PNG image with a soft drop shadow and then float it against any background. You can also use the image as a gradient background or water mark. The file type gives you the option to use the slow fading of colors from entirely opaque to absolutely transparent, so that you can see the webpage underneath They look fantastic: Apart from the fact, that you get amazing flexibility wit PNG images; there are a myriad of other advantages to using this format. For example, when you use a JPEG image, you lose a part of the details from the original file whenever you save the file, so in time, you will notice a distinct decline in the appearance of the images. Although, this issue has now been sorted in GIF and you can save the images without losing any data, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which makes it quite futile if you are going to store a snap shot. On the other hand, if PNG is incorporated, you will get the most desired attributes of both these formats; you will be provided an extensive color display similar to JPEG format and it also supports managed color palette as seen in GIF files. Another advantage is that the compression of the image is without loss so the photograph does not change despite innumerable times of saving the file. PNG is self optimizing: A major concern that web designers have to tackle on a daily basis is the fact that the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be adjusted to see the images appropriately; this problem occurs due to various Gamma setting used in monitors from different vendors. Gamma setting is a technology that helps to distribute the the light across the display surface. However, various operating systems use distinct Gamma settings. Therefore, an image that is color corrected to suit Windows may appear abnormal in Mac. Again, in this case the flexible PNG picture format can prove useful, in PNG, you can store the images with an inherent Gamma correction feature so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be automatically adjusted to show a picture with the amazing contrast and brightness.
