Why Is it In Your Best Interest To Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The benefits of using PNG image format in web designing over various other image formats such as GIF and JPEG; the file type works well if you need to make really amazing and wonderful icons that will prove alluring to your consumersThe PNG file type was introduced some time ago; it was put forth in the market in 1995/96 to meet the deficiencies of the the common GIF file format. However, it did not make an impression because the the browsers of the time could not offer support to the state of the art attributes of PNG so internet designers and creators had to incorporate it sparingly. One of the major hindrances standing in the way was Microsoft Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of the time; IE had limited provision for PNG support which meant that the format could only be incorporated in the most restricted way. But, things went through a change with the introduction of IE7; this fresh product from Microsoft has proved immensely useful in increasing increasing the utility of PNGs. So here is a look at three reasons why PNG is by far the most useful image formats around today:
You can get images that can be superimposed due to their transparency or a feature called alpha transparency: When you compare PNG with GIF, you will see that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you will only be able to save a particular color transparently through the use of GIF this equates to the fact that you can get the color whether opaque or transparent with nothing in between with the use of PNG, you get a serious advantage; because the format can be used to produce semi transparency. This feature gives you the ability to save a PNG file with a soft drop shadow and then use it against a background of your choice. Through this feature you will be able to use an image as a gradient background or water mark. The file type allows for the smooth fading of shades from fully opaque to see through, so that you can see the webpage underneath
They look fabulous: Apart from the fact, that you get amazing flexibility wit PNG images; there are several other advantages to including this format. For instance, when you use a JPEG image, you lose a part of the information from the initial image each time you save the file, so in time, you will notice a noticeable deterioration in the finesse of the images. Even though, this issue has now been sorted in the image format and you can save the images without losing any information, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which imparts it quite ineffective if you are going to save a snap shot. On the other hand, with PNG, you could get the most desired features of both these formats; you get a full color display similar to JPEG format and it also offers managed color palette as seen in GIF files. Also the storage of the file is without loss so the photograph stays put despite innumerable times of saving the file.
PNG allows for self optimization: One of the hurdles that web designers have to tackle on a daily basis is the anomaly due to which the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be changed to see the pictures appropriately; the issue comes into the picture due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma is a method used to spread the brightness across the screen. However, different operating systems use varying Gamma settings. Therefore, multimedia that is color corrected for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Again, in this case the flexible PNG picture format can prove useful, in PNG, you can save the pictures with a built in Gamma correction so whatever operating system you are working on; the Gamma settings will be realigned to show a picture with the perfect ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
