Icon sizes: 256x256, 48x48, 32x32, 24x24, 16x16, 512x512 File formats: ICO, GIF, PNG, BMP Why Do You Need to Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design? The benefits of including PNG file format in website creation over other formats ;for instance, GIF and JPEG; the image format helps to make good and spectacular images that will prove alluring to your visitorsThe PNG file type was introduced a few years back; it was put forth for consumers in the mid 90's to meet the deficiencies of the traditional GIF image format. However, it did not catch on because the early browsers were unable to support the state of the art features of PNG so website designers and makers were compelled to include it in their designs stingily. One of the primary hurdles faced by the format was Microsoft's flagship product, Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of that period; IE had little or no place for PNG support which meant that the format could only be used to a bare minimum. Then, the scene metamorphosed when IE7 was brought out; this new offering from Microsoft has aided in increasing the usability of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is by far the most useful image formats to be introduced so far: You can get transparent images or a property known as alpha transparency: When you compare PNG with GIF, it will become apparent that A definitive difference in the two formats is that you will only be able to save a specific color as transparent in GIF which means that you can get the color whether opaque or transparent with no other color in betweenbut when you use PNG, you get a specific benefit; because the format can be used to produce semi transparency. With this attribute, you can save a PNG picture with a soft drop shadow and then use it against a background of your choice. Through this feature you will be able to use an image as a gradient background or water mark. The image file type allows for the slow fading of hues from entirely opaque to transparent, so that you can see the webpage below They look fabulous: Not only do you get surprising flexibility when using PNG images but also; there are several other advantages to including this format. For instance, if you make use of the JPG Format, you lose a part of the data from the original file each time the file is saved, so after a while, you will be able to view a conspicuous downgrade in the quality of the images. Even though, this concern has now been sorted in in the file type and you can save the files without compromising any details, GIF has a limited color palette of 256, which renders it quite futile if you have to save a photograph. On the other hand, with PNG, you can get the most desired features of the two file types; you will have access to a full color display like with JPEG file type and it also supports managed color palette a la GIF files. Another advantage is that the storage of the image is sans loss so the image stays as it is regardless of how many time you save it. PNG allows for self optimization: One of the hurdles that web designers need to handle frequently is the issue where the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be changed to see the the display properly; the issue comes into the picture due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma setting is a method used to distribute the the light across the monitor display. However, diverse operating systems use distinct Gamma settings. Hence, a picture that is color corrected to suit Windows may not look right on a Mac. Once again, in this case the flexible PNG image type can help you out, in PNG, you can save the pictures with an inherent Gamma correction feature so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be realigned to show a picture with the amazing ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
