However, it failed to create ripples because the early browsers were not designed to support the advanced features of PNG so web designers and makers were forced to include it in their designs stingily. One of the primary blocks that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of the time; IE had very little place for PNG support which equated to the fact that the format could only be used to a bare minimum. But, the scene changed with the introduction of IE7; this latest offering from Microsoft has aided in increasing the popularity of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is by far the most innovative image formats around today: You can get transparent images or a property known as alpha transparency: When you pitch GIF against PNG, you will see that one of the major differences is that you will only be able to save a particular color as transparent in GIF which means that the color can be transformed whether opaque or transparent with no other color in between; however, with PNG, you get a specific benefit; because the format supports semi transparent pixels. With this attribute, you can save a PNG image with a soft drop shadow and then float it against any background. The Image can also be used as a watermark or a gradient background. The image file type lets you incorporate the slow fading of colors from completely opaque to see through, so that you can see the webpage underneath They look spectacular: Apart from the fact, that you get amazing flexibility wit PNG images; there are numerous other advantages to incorporating this format. For instance, if you make use of the JPG Format, you lose some of the data on the original file every time you save the file, so eventually, you will be able to see a conspicuous downgrade in the finesse of the pictures. Even though, this issue has been solved in GIF and you can save the images without losing any data, GIF has a limited color palette of 256, which makes it quite ineffective if you want to store a photograph. But, if PNG is incorporated, you can get the most desired features of the two file types; you will be provided a complete color display similar to JPEG images and it also offers managed color palette as seen in GIF files. Also the compression of the image is without loss so the photograph does not change even if you save the file several times. PNG allows for self optimization: A major concern that web programmers face frequently is the anomaly due to which the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be regulated to see the pictures correctly; the issue comes into the picture due to the difference in the Gamma setting used for the different monitors. Gamma setting is a technology that helps to spread the luminance across the monitor display. However, diverse operating systems use varying Gamma settings. So, multimedia that is color corrected specifically for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Again, in this case the innovative PNG picture format comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can store the files with a built in Gamma correction so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be realigned to display an image with the amazing contrast and brightness.
